NEW YEAR’S EVE SCHOLARSHIP GALA

 RING IN 2011 WITH US

On New Year’s Eve the Wheatt Foundation produces its Annual New Year’s Eve Scholarship Gala.  Melting Pot Orchestra and other entertainers perform.  Dancing to the sounds of Motown, line dancing and much more takes place.  The program is usually held in the Family Life Center of Garfield Church located at 3650 Lander Rd. in Pepper Pike,Ohio 44124 (Lander Circle at Chagrin Blvd.).  The program runs from 9 pm – 1 am.  Breakfast is served to those attending.  The program is family oriented.  Admission cost is usually $2 to $5 per person.  Proceeds fund a scholarship honoring Patricia Belcher, former Melting Pot Orchestra violinist and United Way of Greater Cleveland employee who died from pancreatic cancer in February 2009.

This program is made possible by local stores, restaurants, performing artists and others who contribute their products and services free of charge to the Foundation.

This event, during the holiday season, assists those who are financially deprived from being excluded from an event that entertains and educates.  The program’s positive music from various genres is uplifting and enlightening.

Melting Pot Orchestra is a multicultural diverse ensemble. Its instrumentation consists of violins, horns, rhythm and vocalists.  Many of MPO’s performers are degreed music educators and have performed with many international artists including Sammie Davis,

Jr., Ray Charles, the Temptations, Prince, Joe Williams, Patti Paige, Celia Cruz, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra.  MPO’s repertoire is varied and includes soul, Latin, jazz, pop, blues, sacred and classic musical styles.  MPO has performed at Cleveland’s House of Blues, Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland State University, Ursuline College and Pittsburg’s Kelly-Strayhorn Theatre, just to name a few.  Each fall MPO performs an annual benefit concert for the United Way of Greater Cleveland in the Performing Arts Center of Cuyahoga Community College’s Eastern Campus.
